The phrase, “Spring Chicken” has a negative connotation when used derogatorily about a person, like she is no longer a spring chicken! But the origin of the phrase came from farmers in the early 1700’s who found that chickens born in the spring brought better prices than chickens that had survived the winter and were considered “old.” This pretty spring chicken ornament would look great on a Christmas or Farm themed tree, or also on a garden tree!
